If you want to improve the quality of the opportunities available to you in your job search, it is all about whom you know. Because research tells that 80% of open positions are filled by referrals.
Now let’s jump into my top five job search strategy tips.
Tip Number – 1: Use LinkedIn.
Using LinkedIn to network with others in your industry is one of the best effective ways. There are two simple strategies to help you use LinkedIn to speed up your job search.
First, identify the positions you want to apply for or the companies you want to work with, and then do some research to find out if you know someone who works for the company or if you know someone who works for the company.
Reach out to your connections, and let them know your interest in the position or the company you want to work for. And ask them if it’s okay for them to contact the hiring manager or human resources staff.
Now, if you initiate a connection request with someone you don’t know and have never met before, you’ll want to make a customized note. When you ask to connect with that person, your note might say something like –
“(Hi Sally, I recently discovered you. A senior account representative at Corporation XYZ. I appreciate your company’s vision and mission. I am currently building my Networking and would love the opportunity to connect with us here on LinkedIn)”
and then sign in with your name. Building a new relationship is the first step.
Now, the second part of using LinkedIn to connect with others in your industry and accelerate your job search is to find groups and join those groups and interact with the people in the group in high-quality conversations, sharing your thoughts, ideas, and opinions. Inside private groups is a great way to get to know others.
It’s a really great way to naturally connect with other people and get super involved. Make sure you follow the LinkedIn page of the company you want to work for.
This just reiterates your interest in the position and is a great way to stay informed when the company posts a new one in its feed.

Tip number – 2: Get Ready for Your Career Documents.
Make sure your resume, cover letter, and LinkedIn profile are all ready to go. You want to be able to quickly customize each item as needed and ship it to the person quickly. When a new position pops up, the last thing you want to do is update your resume and LinkedIn profile at the 11th hour. This leaves room for mistakes like spelling errors or grammatical errors. You want to give yourself enough time to update your carrier documents and not rush the process.
Tip number – 3: Create your 30-second elevator pitch.
In the job search, your elevator pitch is an essential resource. It is the fastest way to tell others about your greatest achievements and your qualifications.
It’s a great way to let others know what kind of problems you can solve. Because If you have a 30-second elevator pitch, it will give your more confidence when networking with others about job opportunities.
The key to a great elevator pitch is to make sure it perfectly aligns with your resume, your LinkedIn profile, and your cover letter.
In the case of an elevator pitch think of it as your career story. Now here’s the cool thing if you don’t have a 30-second elevator pitch. Then read this article, Importance of an Elevator Pitch.
Tip Number – 4: Conduct Informational Interviews.
This is one of my favorite tips of all the tips I’ve shared. Because it has worked best for me today. Informational interviews are one of the fastest ways to build new relationships and find meaningful work. An informational interview is an interview that you begin based on a position you want to get in the future or the industry you want to work in.
Target two to three people who are doing what you want to do. Reach out to those people using LinkedIn and talk to them then ask them if they’d be interested in an informational interview.
Now, believe it or not, most people really enjoy talking about themselves, so don’t let this step scare you. You can ask questions like what you like most about their position. Also, ask about their struggle, questions like “How did you get to where you are now”, and take advice from them like “what advice would you give me” Or someone just starting out who wants to move into that position in the future.
Tip Number – 5: Follow Up.
Keep track of all the connections you’ve made and the positions you’ve applied for and followed up on. To fast-track, your job search is one of the best ways. We’re all inundated with emails, connection requests, and text messages, so it’s straightforward to forget the conversations we had.
A week ago put yourself first in someone else’s mind. Follow up in a week or two weeks, and then don’t let this be your last form of communication. You want to follow that later. And don’t follow up to find out how that person can help you. Make you are following a meaningful conversation. Maybe the person mentioned their birthday or something they are doing with a family member. You can bring things like this back into the conversation.
Think of it as establishing your network and building those relationships. Now, it takes a while, so you have to be patient and let it follow a natural flow.
